Sorry Arthur--I will get the hang of how to post a rely !!
In addition to my first reply--I rechecked my notes. The story about the cemetery visit was in the "Yonge Front" news section of the Gananoque (Ontario) newspaper.

I would like to acquire the source for the copy of "the May 8th edition of the Gananoque newspaper 1886" as noted in the reference to Leah Adams on the website.

Also, if someone has written a local history on the Caintown Cemetery, and/or Hogeboom Corners.

Thanks again,

Arthur Pegg.

Hi Arthur
This was in the Gananoque Reporter. Editions are available on microfilm at the Gananoque Library, and at the Leeds & Grenville Gen Society in Brockville. The birth, marriage and death notices have been indexed, but of course there's lots of other stuff....like the story about the cemetery. One could spend hours just reading through the old newspapers, and I just happened across this one.
This was written by the local correspondent from (I think) Caintown. These local correspondents sent in area "Social News" to the Gananoque newspaper. The writer's name is not given....but it would have been a resident of the Caintown area.
The notes in brackets at the end of the story on this site are mine.
I don't know whether there is any written history of that specific area.

So, I've been tracing back beyond Elisha Paine/Rebecca Doane, and through the line of Constance Hopkins, I came to Rebecca Doane, whose mother was Hannah Bangs, whose mother was Lydia Hicks...if you take her line back another 15 generations, you finally hit English and French royalty. I am now at my 37th great grand parents.

My grade 3 son is doing the UEL's. I was just showing him his line, all the way back to the Adams and Anne (ship). My mum, Anne Tennant helped with some of this research. Nice site. JT
