Winnifred Bailey, 79
BELLEVILLE - A former lyn resident, Winnifred Bailey, 79, died at the Belleville General Hospital on Wednesday, January 16, 1991.
Prior to being admitted to hospital, Mrs. Bailey had been a resident for the past five years at Hastings Manor, a home for the aged in Belleville. Before entering Hastings Manor, she had lived in various communities in the Belleville area.
Before moving to the Belleville region, she had lived for a long time in Lyn.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Bailey. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lorne (Actually spelled OWRINE) Cain. Mrs. Bailey is survived by two daughters, Mabel and Gladys Cain of Belleville; a son, Ivan Cain of Belleville and daughter-in-law, Albert and Laura Cain of Brockville. Five grandchildren, Shirley Covey, Edward and Jason Cain of Brockville, Wendy Cain of Westport and Sheila Stevason of London and three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bridget and Alberta, also survive.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Lola Brontmire and Pearl Jones of North Augusta.
Friends were received at the Burke Funeral Home in Belleville where the funeral was held Friday, January 18, interment followed at Melrose Cemetery in Shannonville east of Belleville.
Albert Edward
RESIDENT OF LYN DIED IN HOSPITAL
Retired Railroad Section Foreman, Albert Edward Cain, was in 90th year.
Albert Edward Cain died in St. Vincent de Paul hospital early Thursday morning, October 29, after a short illness. He entered the hospital on Monday and despite his advanced age of 89 years, had been in quite good health.
He was born at Mallorytown on August 13, 1864, and was in his 90th year, being a son of the late Isaac Cain, of Scotland, and his wife, the former Barbara Nash, of Caintown. He was married to the former Susana Lucieneth Dolan, who predeceased him on December 23, 1951.
He leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Mrs. Albert Antaya (Minnie), of Montreal, two sons, Victor Cain, of Frankford, Ont., and Howard Cain, of Montreal, as well as eight grandchildren. He was the last of his family, being deceased by one brother and two sisters, as well as by a daughter, Mabel, and a son, Owrine, a number of years ago.
A retired employee of the Canadian National Railways, he had been a section foreman at Caintown and Lyn. He had lived at Lyn for the past 53 years and was very well known throughout the district where he leaves a wide circle of friends who learn with regret of his passing.
The remains are resting at the C.W. Paul Funeral Home, 33 James Street East, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will be made in the family plot in Mallorytown Cemetery.

Edward George
CAIN A former prominent businessman and resident of Perth, in the person of Edward G. Cain, 84, passed away in the Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston, on Sept. 12th, after a brief illness.
Mr Cain had been in Perth a week previous to his death visiting with relatives and friends, and his sudden passing was deeply mourned by a legion of friends. For many years he conducted a barber shop in the stand now occupied by Peter Robinson on Gore Street and later operated in his home on Gore Street East. Five years ago he retired and moved to Kingston to reside.
Mr. Cain was born at Rideau Ferry, a son of the late Sydney Cain and Eliza (Emmerson) Cain. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W. Smith (Olive) of Kingston, Mrs. G. Buckmaster (Hazel) of Thorold, and Mrs. A. Couch (Audrey) of Toronto; six sisters, Mrs. A. Cornell of Smiths Falls, Mrs. F. Hogan, Smiths Falls, Mrs. A. Cooper, Perth, Mrs. W.J. Dunlop, Detroit, Mrs. L. Graham, Toronto, and Mrs. A. Backus, Detroit; and by 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, George E. Cain *1952) and his wife Bertha (Richardson), (1964).
The funeral was held from the "Chapel on the corner" at Robert J. Reid and Sons, Kingston, and interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth. Pallbearers were Ray Miller, Clayton Farnell, Douglas Cain, Syd Cain, Donald Smith and Robert Smith. (07 October 1965 pg 15, Perth Courier Newspaper)

Gladys Cain, 58
Former Brockville resident Gladys May Cain, 58, died suddenly at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital on September 4.
She was born in Brockville to Orrine Cain and the former Winnifred Armstrong, who both predeceased her. She lived her younger years at the Smiths Falls Children's Hospital. As a young adult, she moved out on her own in Belleville, where she lived until 1997. In 1998 she moved to the Wellington House Nursing Home in Prescott.
She loved music, outings, bingo, and especially being with family.
She is survived by her sister Mabel Cain of Belleville; brother Albert Cain and his wife Laura; two half sisters, Mary McNish and Myrtle Longmere of Lyn; and several neices, nephews and cousins.
No visitation or funeral service was held but burial will be at Melrose Cemetery in Shannonville, east of Belleville, on a later date.

A funeral service will be held at the Belleville Fuberal Home and Chapel, 68 North Front Street, Belleville on Tuesday July 13, 1993 at 3p.m. Rev. Robert Brouwer officiating.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service, cremation to follow.

Owrine Ivan Cain died at his home in the second concession of Thurlow Township this morning after an illness of one month's duration.
Born at Mallorytown the late Mr. Cain was in his 45th year and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Edward Cain, now residing at Lynn, Ontario, and where he lived until four years ago when he moved to Thurlow Township. He was a member of the United Church at Shannonville.
Surviving him are his wife, the former Winnifred Watson (actual nee was Armstrong); his parents; two daughters, Gladys and Mabel, also two sons, Albert and Ivan, all at home; two brothers, Howard of Oshawa, and Victor of Frankford; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Driscoll. Montreal and Nrs. Clarence Shurtliff, Oshawa.

Sidney Cain
CAIN SIDNEY CAIN DIES IN 90th YEAR
Sincere regret was occasioned in the surrounding district by the death of the late Sidney Cain, who passed away at the home of Elizabeth Moore, Perth, on April 29 (1947).
The deceased had only been ill a few days, having enjoyed good health all his life. Born at Caintown, a son of the late Alonzo and Marie cain, as a child he moved in Elmsley Township with his parents.
Sixty Eight years ago he married Eliza Emmerson of Perth who predeceased him four years ago in April (1943). Of this union a family of ten children survive; two sons and eight daughters: E.G. Cain. Perth; Alfred, Tillie, both of Perth; Christina (Mrs. Alonzo Cornell); Florence (Mrs. Arthur Cooper), both of Perth; Mary (Mrs. Henry Steele) Trenton; Lottie (Mrs. George Graham) Brantford; Annie (Mrs. Ben Coppolo) Detroit; Lillian (Mrs. Frank Hogan) Smiths Falls; Isabella (Mrs. W. J. Dunlop); and 33 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also two brothers; Delevan of Smiths Falls, Charles of Chaumont, NY, and one sister Mrs. Annie M. Taylor, Ferry Road.
The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon from Blair & Sons Chapel to Elmwood Cemetery. The service being conducted by Rev. W.R. Alp, of St. Paul's United Church.
The pallbearers were his six granbdsons: Herbert and George Cornell, Norman and Albert Cooper, Ernest and Ted Steele.

MRS. A.E. CAIN DIES IN HOSPITAL
Popular District Resident had been ill in Hospital since early November
Mrs. Susana Lucieneth Cain died in the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday morning, December 23, after being a patient there since November 10. She had not been well for some time.
She was a resident of Lyn, being born at Caintown on May 15, 1874. She was in her 78th year. Her father was the late Michael Dolan, while her mother was the former Lydia Cooper, of Caintown. She is survived by her husband, Albert Edward Cain, and one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Driscoll, of Montreal, as well as two sons, Victor Cain, of Frankfort, Ont., and Howard Cain, of Oshawa, and eight grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. David Haws, of Mallorytown, and Mrs. James Bulger, of Governeur, N.Y., as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Lyn United Church. Having lived in that district most of her life, she was considered a most popular resident.
The remains will rest at the C.W. Paul Funeral Home, 33 James Street East, until Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock when Rev. C.K. Mathewson, of lyn, will conduct the service. The remains will be placed in the Albert Gilmour Memorial Vault with burial in Mallorytown Cemetery in the spring.
Cecil E. Gamble
Redwood -- Cecil E. Gamble, 70, Reynolds Road, Town of Alexandria died at 6:48 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient since Dec. 4.
The funeral was Saturday at the Quincer-Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Rev. Cornelius O'Kay of the Alliance Church of Watertown officiating. Burial was in Barnes Settlement Cemetery.
Mr. Gamble is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sarah Gamble; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Evelyn) Johnson of Clayton; three sons, Donald and Elmer of here and Arthur of Clayton; two sisters, Mrs. Stephen (Keitha) Berry of Lyndhurst, Ont. and Mrs. Arthur (Hazel) Coulter of Glenburnie, Ont.; two brothers, Lotan of Nomiamo, Vancouver Island, and Ward of Watertown and 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Gamble was born July 30, 1903, in Moreton(sic), Ont., a son of John Henry and Agnes Burch (sic) Gamble.
On Oct. 7, 1926, he married Sarah Sly at Seeleys Bay, Ont. and they came to the U. S. in December 1926, settling in Clayton. They farmed until May 1948 when the (sic) moved to their present home. Mr. Gamble was also a cattle and antiques dealer.
Myrtle
Entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital on Friday, May 7th, 1999, the former Myrtle Cain of Lyn, age 73 years.
Beloved wife of the late Robert Longmere. Sister of Mary McNish and her husband Albert of RR#2 Lyn, half-sister to Albert Cain and his wife Lorrian (actual spelling Laura) of Brockville and Mabel of Belleville. Also survived by several neices and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Orin Ivan Cain and his wife the former Bertha Daily, a half-sister Gladys Cain, and a half-brother Ivan Cain.
A graveside Service for Mrs. Longmuir will be held on Tuesday, May 11th, 1999 at 11a.m. at Lyn Cemetery. In Memoriams to St. Jonh The Baptist Anglican Church, Lyn, would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Burton R. Bain, Lyn, Dead at 49
Burton Russell Bain, 49, of R.R.#2 Lyn died at Kingston General Hospital Tuesday, March 10. He had been in hospital since December 10 when he suffered a heart attack, and in Kingston hospital for the past week.
He was born at Fairfield on June 6, 1920, son of Frederick Stanley Bain who survives, and the former Gertrude Lola Vout who predeceased on December 3, 1968. He was educated in the Fairfield area and was married to the former Florence Louise McKay, who also survives.
He had worked at the Automatic Electric Plant here up until December 10 when he took ill. He was a member of Wall Street Church, of a quiet disposition, his main interests centered around his home and family.
Besides his wife and father he is survived by one son, Stephen at home; one brother Jack of R.R.#4 Brockville, and one nephew, Glen, of Brockville. His remains will rest at the Bruce E. Davy Funeral Home, 14 Clarissa Street from 7 p.m. Wednesday where funeral service will be held...... (Can't Read rest of obit)
Florence Bain, 69
Florence Louise Bain of Brockville died at the Brockville General Hospital after suffering a heart attack at the local bingo hall August 11, she was 69.
Mrs. Bain was born December 18, 1922, in Brockville, a daughter of James McKay and his wife, AnnaBelle Holmes. She was educated in Brockville and Married Burton Russell Bain in Lyn. The couple lived at R.R.#2 Lyn for a number of years and then moved to Prescott. Nine years after her husband's death in March 1970, Mrs. Bain moved back to Brockville.
As a young woman she worked in Montreal. While living in Prescott, she worked for the coast guard, and in Brockville she worked at Automatic Electric.Mrs. Bain was affiliated with Wall Street Church, Brockville, aside from her interests in home and family. She enjoyed playing bingo and meeting people.
She is survived by her son Stephen Bain, of Brockville, sister Phyllis McKay of Montreal, and two brothers, James and Allan of Brockville. She also leaves several nephews and neices. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton Bain, a sister, Dorothy Nolet of Montreal, and a brother, Bill McKay of Toronto.
Friends will be received at the Johnston and Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where the funeral was held August 14, Rev. Alan Bennett of Wall Street Church officiating. During the service, Nanci Tyssen and Terry Elickus led family and friends in the singing of "Amazing Grace." Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dominic Elickus, Jim McKay Jr., Edward Cain, Nanci Tyssen, and D'Arcy and Alan McKay.
Memorial donations to the heart and stroke foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
Phyllis Mildred Elickus (Nee: McKay) at the Montreal General Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer, on September 19, 2006 at the age of eighty-two.
Daughter of the late James McKay and the later Annabelle Holmes. Loving mother of Dominic Elickus, Margaret Theresa Elickus and Janet Boulianne. Cherished grandmother od Sasha, Cynthia, Catherine, Michael, Lillian, John and Stephanie and great-grandmother of Leah, Faith, Ryan, Tiffany, Corey, Dexter, Katie, Cassidy and Samuel.
Predeceased by her sisters Florence Bain and Dorothy Nolet and by her brothers Bill McKay and James McKay. She will also be sadly missed by her brother Allan McKay, many other relatives and friends.
Phyllis worked fifty years at Chalet BBQ and she would have worked another fifty years if she had not fallen ill. She loved her work and most of all, she loved the people.

Peacefully at the Rosedale Retirement Center, Brockville, on Monday, March 26, 2007, at the age of 77 years. Beloved wife of the late Christopher Holmes. Loved sister of Mrs. Audrey Marin of Prescott. Also survived by a foster son Roayl Taylor (Linda) of Huntsville, dearest friend and cousin to Jan Gilligan (Richard) of RR1 Brockville and fondly remembered by Jan's children, Terri Dougall (Stephen), Thomas Anderson (Tina) and several cousins. Predeceased by her parents John and Marie Burnside and by her brother-in-law John MArin.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday from 12 noon until 1:15 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated in the chapel on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Cremation to follow at Roselawn Crematorium with interment, together with her husband Christopher, at St. Francis Xavier Columbarium at a later date.
